How to make IITkgp a better place to Live n Learn
India-Today & Dataquest Rankings of Engineering colleges for 2006 have come.
Kgp got No.4 but it is not our 'Actual Rank'. ..Bcoz our 'Actual Rank' is decided by Students and we all know that.....
When it comes to choice, most of the JEE/GATE/JAM-qualifiers choose kgp only when the Top 4 IIT's (B,K,D,M) have denied them a seat. Why??
WHY???
This blog is an Open-discussion-forum(via replies) where anyone can share his/her views about-
(1) How to achieve No.1 position in-Placements,infrastrucure,adminstration,student-amenities..etc-etc....so that we will be miles ahead of other IIT's as IIMA is of other IIM's.
(2)Other useful suggestions to "make IITkgp a better place to Live n Learn ".

(1) Force insti to start(via senate) 'appraisal and feedback of faculty of ALL deptt' from the students & publish that on 'Academic section notice-board'.

i dont think thr is much prob with profs though it is thr a bit, the main thing is that when somebody clears jee he/she like to be at a place whr not only they get knowledge butalso njoyment(a city life kind of thing),and I hav no hesitation to say tat kharagpur is a good example for an undeveloped village!!!
who knows just after jee whr the profs r gud and who tells them tat the profs at iit kharagpur r bad..so hav some gud theatre, hav some nice restaurents, hav some thing which attract ppl, who's attracted by Gymkhana!!!, i dont think its impressive to say we hav Gymkhana for refreshment..only way of attracting freshers is by promising them njoyment bcoz we(kgpians) hav nyway got the country's best placements!!
i would suggest to increase the quality of food in the respective messes...while many of you will laugh at first on this....give it a thought and you will realise...just how many times has it happened that you came back after attending back to back classes(does ne body attend them???) or a lab. and get really pissed off after juast tasting the food in the mess.Most of us go out to the restaurants but that is not the answer to the problem...for how long can we push in the dirt under the carpet???
Not only that....just think who is teaching the foundation courses to the freshers??? really incompetent people..while this does not apply to all, a majority of the faculty for freshers is bogus....not all knowledgeable people make good teachers and not all good teachers are knowledgeable!!! Simply forcing them to attend classes is not the way studies should be done at an IIT! eg: PDS course has taken off like a nightmare....next to nothing is taught in class and the Lab assignments demand that we know whole of the course before hand!!!
lastly can someone please tell the people over here that humility and politeness are some things to account for!!!
B or K may be first choice
but D or M ....na ...
besides that ..
ppl want to live in city...
privatise the mess.award conracts for a semester and do not renew contract or penalise for bad food.then mess food should improve drastically. and this awarding of contracts should be done in a transparent manner, with student representation in the deciding committee to avoid corruption.
More industry interaction.
Technology intensive mini projects in place of meaningless courses for a given semester.
Compulsory involvement of students in a particular technology group for innovation.
Recent KABI SAMMELAN at iitkgp has revealed a fact that iitkgpians has ample patriotic/cultural ethos. The kabi's themshelf are overwhelmed by the entusiasm of student.Where the culture is lurking the place cant be far back then other.
What we lack today is the simple knowledge.A CS engineer dont know how to open the box beside monitor.A mech.engg dont know how to open a tractor,but he know the most complicated Equation on this planet!
Work with the machine but dont tinker with it.
Such lack of faith on the capability of IITKGPian has to be shunned. IITkgpians should be given the respect they deserve.If they break it then they have the capability to make a better one too.
Let the authority know that this
disrespect to student only manifest itshelf disguisely in the form of iresponsible act like recent happening of CD scandal.Only saying "our student have the ability to get NOBEL " will not do.Believe them.Give them the facility on which their shelf respect will flourish.Stand behind them in their distress like financial crisis.Thus we can avoid such unfortunate incident.
AND IITKGP is the best place ever after.......................
As in apex corporate organisations continous appraisal keeps the work force more productive.But ufortunately in indian academic circle the appraisal system is very remote and mostly non-existant.Institutes of IIM level are bringing this new dynamix....and so should the IITs go for.IITs being a much older organisation than IIM and is believed by some people to be possesing more edge in technology leverage than IIMs do in business and management..........
are yaar who the hell cares abt the system and all crap . i am only countin' my days here. btw gud effort from ur part for highlighting the problems with the system, after all there shud be ppl who can compensate

All the above comments put forwarded by fellow reader of this blog is in-some-way a partial reflection of the actual truth ... There is no easy-to-implement practical approach to achieve 1st position ahead of B, M K and D.
There is a theoretical solution to it although, to convert KGP to a metropolis!! Because u can't change the mindset of average indian midlle class family to choose a boaring place like KGP and that too in WB when there is option of getting into B, M, D and K.
At the end it doesn't matter to IITKGP as the true potential and calibre/intelligence of student is not-in-any-way related to his/her IITJEE rank.
And suggestion to make IITKGP a better place is like compling a book and a single comment will not do any justice to it.
